95% of bloggers have a reason for failure, and not why you think so.
The current myth is that bloggers fail because they are not “enthusiastic enough.”
“To succeed is to go through failure,” they say.
Google “Why Bloggers Fail,” and you get the same answer from # 1 results: Bloggers fail because they’re not enthusiastic enough.
I officially reject this idea.
The real reason why bloggers fail is that any business fails: it is not profitable.
Take my emotions, for example.
I’m passionate about a lot of things – drumming, flying, travel, astronomy, distance running, personal development, Detroit-style pizza, and more.
However, if I write endless amounts of blog posts about one of these topics without any meaning, I will waste 100% of my time.
In addition, some bloggers claim, “I’m not into it for money” or, “It’s just a hobby.”
Hobby bloggers are just new bloggers who still don’t know how to make money. In any creative digital field—be it design, web development, photography, copywriting, or video editing—there are new experts.
And since most bloggers start out as new by writing about emotion and then trying to figure out everything else, they are doomed to fail.

Also, blogging advice is outdated, written only to rank in Google, and encourages a general approach to appeal to a wider audience.
Bloggers don’t fail because they lack emotion (they have it).
Bloggers fail because they can’t convert from blogger to business owner.
So they choose a non-profit niche targeting low-priced visitors. New bloggers forget to take advantage of networking and connectivity for their strategic advantage. And there is not enough market demand to scale their traffic.
I want you to succeed.
Before launching your blog, it is important to choose your niche based on three business factors, not based on passion: visitors’ budget potential, professional leverage, and market demand. See the guide to starting a blogging business for more blogging articles.
1. Visitor budget potential
To offer a valuable product on your blog, you need to solve a pain problem for your visitors. It is obvious. As a blogger, you need to deeply understand the challenges of your audience so that you can address the most demanding. Check.
Start by looking at the niches where you yourself are a member of the target audience. That way, your domain efficiency shines through faster.
But don’t think that once you’ve reached this point, you need to open a generic list of your 100 niches and compress it that way. Watercolor? Who-pop? Travel? Good luck with that.
What’s the # 1 most important factor when choosing a niche for your blog?
How much your visitors are willing to spend?
It’s that simple.
Let’s break it down.
So in this example, suppose you are planning to start a blog in the niche of home design.
The content of your blog can attract different readers. Visitors can include professional interior designers, college design students, and even moms at home who want the latest home decor inspiration.
To monetize this niche, you create a new blog and take your readers down the sales funnel:
- First, you create content to attract visitors
You will then create a home design “freebie” to get an email opt-in
- Next, you can use affiliate marketing to promote your home decor brand
- Finally, you’ll be offering your email clients a $300 online course (with a money-back guarantee) about 10 expert interior design tips for the perfect home.
There is nothing wrong with this approach – it tends to be what most bloggers do, and it can generate some passive income a few years after you build your audience.
But is it a profitable visitor? A few professionals including mom, college student, and average salary at home?
The secret here.
By changing just one word in your niche, you can increase your blog’s revenue potential by 200x.
All you have to do is change “Home Design” to “Retail Design”.
Let me explain.
By adding a B2B element, you have moved your audience from person to person and increased your blog’s revenue potential by 200x.
Think of it this way. If you sell to a big business instead of an individual, you make more money for two reasons. The first is that they have more funds. Second, it’s not coming from their own pockets.

The nice thing about this approach is that your blog launch, content strategy, and sales funnel are almost identical for B2C “Home Design” and B2B “Retail Design” niches.
Here’s the good part: While B2C “home design” monetization has stopped at the $ 300 course, the B2B “retail design” niche doesn’t just stop there.

After unveiling for a lucrative audience price, the next step is to discover the strategic advantages you may have over others.
Ask yourself:
- What is the current level of my professional experience?
2. What connections do I have in my industry?
3. Can I have this experience on a profitable blog?
4. If I could pitch a website around the world to contribute to a guest post, who would take me seriously from the start?
To create a truly successful blog, you must first make an impact. And to build authority, you need to step outside of your comfort zone and take advantage of your connections, professional experience, and everything at your disposal that has never happened before.
You will perform many outreaches to make new connections.
Outreach builds relationships so you can post guests on authentic sites in your niche.
These posts give you relevant, high domain authority (DA) backlinks for SEO, which is still one of the best ways to rise in Google search rankings. And according to the latest Internet statistics for 2019 broadband search, Google processes 3.5 billion searches per day – or more than 40,000 per second. There is a lot of traffic to get around.
And when you’re just starting out, you may not have many links or published content. You may tell: “Why would anyone attribute me?”
Using your background helps a lot.
For example, if you are a photographer, you may have a client base, know the local meet-up group, and even know the photography influencers you have met in the past. If you can use these contacts in the future, you can accelerate the growth of your blog.
3. Your niche needs market demand.
Before you start, you need to do some research and see if people are searching for the topics you want to write about – and they are monetized.
The two main types of monetization keywords are the “best” list post and the “how-to” guide.
These two main types of keywords have the highest potential for affiliate marketing.
For example, in the case of a “best” list post:
- When touring, it can be “Effort Travel Insurance” or “Endeavor Travel Backpack”.
2. In terms of money, it could be “Best Savings Account” or “Best Roth IRA”.
3. In technology, it could be “the best VR headset” or “the best PS5 exclusive”.
When people are looking for something “best”, they are looking for long-form guides recommending products written by bloggers. Most of these will have well-approved programs for joining and promoting.
In the case of the “how” guide, these might be:
- In marketing, how to construct a website.
2. Lifestyle, how to decorate your kitchen.
3. In terms of health, how to get rid of acne.
These how-to guides are long-form tutorials full of high-quality content. These are also good enough for increasing affiliate links.
According to 77% of bloggers interviewed in a survey, the most popular blog format is the ‘how to’ article.
This means that once you understand your leverage and passion, take your chosen niche and come up with the top 10 keywords to target.
Next, apply a keyword investigation tool like Growthbar, Google Keyword Planner, SEMRush, or Ahrefs and participate in your keywords.
With GrowthBar, you can research your keywords while searching on Google.

Here is some plan of action to continue in mind when it comes to keyword research.
If your top 5 keyword searches amount to at least 5,000, this indicates that you are interested in these topics. Here is an example of my target keyword in this blog post:

Next, look at the keyword difficulty score (a number from 0 to 100 depending on how difficult it is to rank for the keyword).
If your keyword has a score of 80 or higher, the competition can be fierce for you to make an impact.
Shoot more than 2,000 monthly searches and target keywords below 50 difficulty scores so you can get more traffic with less competition.
Another way to see the competition is to use an SEO tool like Ahrefs to see the search engine results page (SERP) data. Specifically, see the domain rating (DR) and SERP location history of the first page results.
If all of the top 10 results have a DR above 70, then your new blog with a DR of 0 will not appear on the front page, resulting in no traffic.
However, if you see a website with DRs under the age of 50 on the front page, this is a good indication that you can overtake them with quality content over time.
Lastly, if the history of the SERP position has not been bad in the last six months, it means that position # 1 – 5 has remained in the same place. In this case, the competition for that keyword can be very intense.
To recap, while researching the market demand for your blog, shoot for topics that have keywords:
- 2,000+ monthly searches
2. A keyword difficulty score below 50
3. The 1st page of Google holds at least one site with a DR under 50
4. A SERP location history that has recently changed.
In short, focus less on writing and more on keyword research – one keyword should be noticed in every single blog post.
Be sure to choose your niche based on audience budget prospects, professional leverage, and market demand.
Find an audience that you are a part of and personally understand their challenges. To ensure that you have a B2B component to double your revenue potential 200 levels of that audience. Take advantage of your network, work experience, and everything at your disposal. And do certain your niche holds market demand.

From 0 to 90 days, you should not focus your energy on writing your first draft. I wouldn’t give the same old, old advice. I refuse to talk about how to write about your emotions, following an editorial calendar, writing habits, writing continuity, (or anything about writing about it).
Instead, we’re going to scale your blog like a startup and quickly build credibility in your niche.

But if you’re one of the like-minded people who are serious about promoting your blog as a CEO (and not a hobby blogger), let’s start monetizing.
1. Relationships are your foundation.
Before you start building relationships with other bloggers and influencers in your niche, you need to understand a central theme.
You have to give value to others. Don’t go into the process of building a relationship thinking about what you will get out of the contract. First, you need to focus on the benefits that you will give to others.
Ask yourself: What are you paying for in a relationship?
- Can you provide content because your skills match the interests of their audience?
2. Does their blog currently need content to fill their editorial calendar?
3. Can you do link building for other guest posts you are writing?
4. Is there a topic that you are well versed in that does not exist on their blog?
The first step in pitching is to understand your value and what you can do to help. This information will be vital to your initial email outreach strategy.
First, create a targeted list of sites.
Once you understand the value you can pay, it’s time to start building your blog’s promotional list.
This list should be a simple spreadsheet with five columns: website, name, email address, status, etc.
To start populating your spreadsheet, try target site monthly site visitors and domain authority (DA) plugs their URLs into an SEO tool like Ahrefs. Look for blogs with a domain authority of 50+.
Remember, the higher the DA, the stronger the chances of a partnership and the more SEO impact you will get from the relationship. To save time on your search, find an article like this with top blogs and websites that receive guest posts with domain authority scores.
Once you’ve narrowed down your blog list based on the above criteria, it’s time to find the right person to contact.
Use LinkedIn first.
Start by filtering your search results on the Company page of the blog, then within the company, search for people using “Content Manager”, “SEO Manager”, “Editor” or simply, “Content”. Once you’ve found 2-3 potential contacts, connect with them on LinkedIn. 2nd degree LinkedIn connections are better than 3rd – and even better if you have interaction.
Once you’ve reached LinkedIn, use an email tool like Hunter.io to scan blogs for email addresses. Even if you can’t find the exact email address of the contact, Hunter.io shows your email structure, such as firstname@blog.com or firstname.lastname@blog.com. Add this contact information to your spreadsheet.
2. Start a relationship at the same time and pitch guest posts
Provide valuable blogging relationship content and links. Once you’ve had a list of 50-100 potential contacts and reached LinkedIn, it’s time to start promoting your email.
You can scale your guest blogging strategy using an email template to start a relationship when you ask for guest posts at the same time.
Here is a sample template I used:

I communicate because I love (Target Blog) and am interested in collaborating with you on content.
I was curious if:
1) You want to participate in link building. I write guest posts every month (X-X) and will be happy to link my content to your site.

There are four main criteria for a perfect guest blogging topic pitch:
- Your content does not yet exist on their site. When you have an idea of a topic, go to Google and search for “site: blog.com topic” and scan their blog to see if it already exists.
2. Your subject and target keywords hold SEO worth. Go back to Ahrefs and input the URL of the blog. See which organic keywords are driving the most traffic You are finding gaps in their content that you can fill.
3. Matters match your skills. You will be able to write intelligently about the topic and use guest blogs to create more impact in your niche.
4. The subject matches the interest of the audience. Check out their editorial guidelines, see how they write their blog posts, and try to match their blog style.
Once your topic is accepted, you can go to the center of your guest blogging strategy.
3. The importance of guest blogging.
In January 2019, I conducted a guest blogging test. My goal was to contribute as many guest posts as possible within 15 days to measure their impact on my site’s SEO metrics and traffic.
Here are the results 15 days later:
- Eight guest posts have been published on the website, including the DA of 81, 73, 60, 66, 71, 61, 94, and 84
- 32 new referring domains
- 247 new backlinks
- 268 new organic keywords have made it into the top 100
- 372% organic traffic growth
- +12 to Ahrefs domain authority
- Alexa rank improved by 600,000
The results were clear—guest posting on a high DA site still greatly affects the SEO of a new blog. 65% of marketers say that the most difficult SEO strategy to master is link building, it can be the most effective.
That’s why I recommend launching a blog with 5 “column posts”—long-form, SEO-optimized articles for inbound links. Add statistics, infographics, and case studies to make linking easier.
Even as my blog ages, I still aim to contribute at least one guest post for each post I write for my blog.
Remember, when you first learn to make money by blogging, pay more attention to business and relationships and less to writing.
However, the quality of the content of your guest posts is important. Make sure your content titles, paragraph texts, and links are used correctly. Follow the guest post guidelines closely and use one of the best grammar checker tools if you want to improve the quality of your writing.
Update 2020: In 2019, Adam published more than 80 guest posts, increased his domain rating to 74, and now (as of May 2020) his blog has got over 400,000 visitors/month.

When creating your sales funnel, you need to use email marketing software with an on-site email opt-in tool to create maximum email subscribers.

Confused? Let’s look at some examples.
NerdWallet is a huge affiliate of Finance. When you Google the “best credit cards”, you always see them at or near the top of the SERP:

When you click on their link and visit their site, they provide a list of the best options for buying cards, including the authorized link:

The page offers 41 options, including a block of optimized content below to maximize their SEO.
When a user decides to click on one of the “Apply Now” authorized links, they are redirected to the company’s offer page and NerdWallet receives a commission on each sale.
Since the “best credit card” is searched 182,000 times per month, this page is a money-printing passive income machine.
Let’s look at another example.
What if I search for the “best laptop”?

We see Laptop Mag and Tekradar in first and second place – both affiliate blogs.
What do we see when we click on the laptop mag? Post another list of product recommendations with affiliate links:

Again, if a reader clicks the “View at Dell” button, they are redirected to Dell.com’s product page via an authorized link, giving Laptop Mag a commission on each sale.
Since the “best laptop” is searched 112,000 times per month, this post is another passive income machine.
Did you notice anything interesting when we did these Google searches?
There was no single actual company that sold product rankings for these terms.
There was no Capital One or Discover ranking on the front page—just an affiliate blog. There was no Dell, Best Buy, or HP ranking for “the best laptop”—it was all blogs.
Why is that?
When searchers are looking for “best” products, they want to post extensive reviews, not product pages.
They are not ready to buy yet. They want to read a long-form review comparing different options.
This is how blogs make money. They mediate search intent. They drive traffic through search engines, provide advice and help people click on affiliate links.
It’s that simple.
So how did you get started?
You need to start writing blog posts that are transactions in nature.
Remember, your blog is a moderator. You demand more than a fortune to win in affiliate business.
How Much Money Can You Make Blogging?
Bloggers are getting money in all sorts of structures. Successful bloggers can earn more than 7-figures / year, other bloggers may not be making any money.
